We're like babies: we learn our language gradually. First, we learn to listen. Then we learn to talk. Finally, we can read and write. Learning a second language is very alike learning our first language.
Listen to English every day: English on online radio stations and watch TV programs and movies in English. Read stories, articles and essays in English. Start with children's storybooks. They can be fun!
Write down new words. Start a vocabulary notebook. Write words in alphabetical order. Write example sentences with new words you have learned. Always use English-English dictionaries instead of English-Portuguese ones!
