Avoiding mistakes: USED TO vs. TO BE USED TO

2011-08-01

Don’t confuse “I am used to” and “I used to”. They’re different in structure and meaning.

- I am used to (doing) something= something isn’t strange for me.
Examples: I am used to driving fast.
               He’s used to exercising.

- I used to (do) something= I did something regularly in the past but no longer do it.
Examples: I used to drive fast. (I no longer drive fast)
He used to exercise. (He no longer exercises)
