Looking back on 2011: Halloween at UNS Tatuapé
2012-02-14

During the last two weeks of October our school was decorated with monsters, devils, zombie brides, spiders, pumpkins and bats in order to call students attention. At the reception lounge, in front of the main entrance, we placed a coffin with a devil mask and some newspaper covered with black, orange and purple tulle, simulating a corpse and evoking a funeral. Each monster received the name of one of our teachers and a characteristic consistent with him or her.Â
On October 27th (Thursday), October 29th (Saturday) and October 31st (Monday) a treasure hunt was organized among the groups. The clues were hidden in the monsters and the names of the teachers were used to help students spot them. All the hints were written in English, in verses and with rhymes in order to enlarge students’ vocabulary related to Halloween. Everybody gathered at the front yard, where they were divided into teams. There were four teams altogether divided by colors. From the first clue the teams had to follow the hints, which were hidden in the monsters around the school, until they get to the reception lounge where they would receive a treat.
Before the game started, Vivian, our director, dressed in black, put on the mask of the devil and lied in the coffin. The lights were out and Friday 13th and/or The Exorcist were being played on TV so that the students would feel even more scared. When they started looking for their treats in the coffin, Vivian got up and scared everybody. They liked the activity, which involved not only the cultural aspect of the holiday, but also a lot of fun.
